Little Friends Daycare & Preschool

  1. How long have you been doing daycare?

I’ve been doing daycare since September 1988. ( 27 years now). I started when my youngest child was just a year old. My only regret is that I didn’t start sooner. I love what I do Ü.

  2. What school District are you in?

Dilley, Gales creek, and Harvey Clarke and Tom McCall.

  3. What is the difference between Certified and Registered daycare?

Certified daycares have a lot of the same rules as Centers. We go through a yearly certification through the Childcare Division and have to have a sanitation inspection done by the County Health Department. Certified daycares also have 1-2 monitoring visits from the childcare division yearly to make sure you are in compliance with all the rules. Certified daycares have to have 15 hours continuing education annually. Where as Registered daycares only have to have 8 hours every 2 years. They also don’t have to have a sanitation inspection or an annual certification. Certified daycares can care for more children than Registered daycares.

  4. What meals do you provide?

I provide Breakfast, AM Snack, Lunch, PM snack and a Light dinner if parents have something right after daycare and want thier children to have something before they go.

  5. What are your daycare rates?

Please call and let me know what your needs are. I offer Full time, part time, drop-in and school age rates. Rates also depend on the age of your child.

  6. Do you smoke?

No, there is no smoking allowed.

  7. Do you have any pets?

No, not currently. We have always had pets until recently. Our dogs, Toby and Makita passed away from old age and cancer. We are planning on getting another puppy when the time is right. We very much love animals. Our animals have always done really well with our Daycare families and they loved them just as much as we did.

  8. Are you a registered provider with DHS?

Yes I am, and since I am a certified daycare, DHS benefits are better, which in turn helps out the parents more.

  9. What are your views on discipline ?

I provide a daily routine that is structured yet flexible, so that the children are comfortable with their surroundings and expectations. Kids like to know what to expect. Children’s interactions with one another are carefully observed. Through careful guidance we strive to teach the children manners, kindness, how to be gentle with others, and respect for others and their belonging. When a child demonstrates inappropriate behavior to another child or a belonging, he or she will be encouraged to make amends by a sincere apology. We are trying to teach the child right from wrong. We also work on Sharing, problem solving, taking turns being a team player, and just being a nice person. Saying nice things instead of being hurtful.

I believe that the discipline of a child is achieved through knowing what is expected of them, patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. The children are explained the rules frequently and know what is expected on them. If a child still acts out we will do the following:

    1) Positive reinforcement-the child is praised when demonstrating good behavior.

    2) Redirection- The child is redirected to another activity and giving the opportunity to try again later.

    3) Time-out - The child is separated from the group for an age appropriate age (1 minute per age of the child) this is only used as a last resort and if the child continues to display negative behavior and Positive reinforcement and redirection are not working

  10. Do you do monthly fire drills and emergency evacuation planning?

Yes we do this monthly, we practice fire drills, earthquake drills, and stranger danger. We also practice calling 911 (on a play phone).

  11. What if I'm going to be late? What is your Policy?

If you’re going to be late I ask that you make other arrangement to have your children picked up by the pick up time of 5:15. If that is not possible just give me a call and let me know. I know that emergency come up and as long as I know what is going on I’m ok with that. If no phone call is made or arrangement you may be charged a late fee of $1.00 per minute after 5:15. I don’t like to have to charge late fees so just give me a call.

  12. Can my child bring toys from home?

I prefer that they don’t unless it’s a comfort toy or blanket. We have sharing days with preschool usually on set days during the month. On those days they can bring a toy for sharing. If it is a major struggle and you can’t get out of the house without it by all means bring it we can put it in the cubby later.

  13. How do you screen your staff/helpers?

I will check all references, from work and personal. They go through a criminal background check, They are CPR certified and first aid trained and are expected to go to continuing education classes. They will have a 2 week trial period to see how the children interact with them before they are hired on a regular basis. My daycare children need to feel comfortable with everyone that works here.

  14. Will you work with my child with potty training?

If a child is showing “Ready” signs and the parents and I both feel that they are ready, I would be more than happy to help in assisting  your child in potty training. It is important that the child is worked with this at home as well as in daycare to make it successful.

  15. Do you offer a year end receipt for Tax purposes?

Yes I do. Just let me know when you need it and I will print one out for you. I also can do weekly or monthly receipts if you take advantage of pretax plans.

  16. How many providers are currently working at your daycare?

We currently have 2 full time staff members and 2 on call, if we need additional help for special occasions.

  17. Do you have any experience with specials needs children?

Yes, one of our staff members has 9 years experience working with special needs children. Kids with developmental disabilities. We also take current continuing education classes on special needs.
